In remembrance of our cultural games from Haiti, there are useful math skills found in the simplicity of kite-making.
PwavKAP is a S T E A M initiative using the traditional art of kite-making to teach youth basic geometry concepts while keeping a piece of Haitian culture despite our distance from home.Students learn the stages of making the kite skeleton and the purpose of the positioning of the sticks and how they are tied together.Kite skeletons are
PwavKAP is a S T E A M initiative using the traditional art of kite-making to teach youth basic geometry concepts while keeping a piece of Haitian culture despite our distance from home.Students learn the stages of making the kite skeleton and the purpose of the positioning of the sticks and how they are tied together.Kite skeletons are covered by colored plastic, then participants cut their own shapes and designs with colorful tissue paper, then glue tissue designs to plastic base.Decorated are left to dry for some time while we share fun facts about Haiti with participants.Once, kites are dried, the fabric tails and the string are added to the kite to prepare for flying. Participants then have the opportunity to fly their kites outdoors.Kite-Making workshops are typically 2 hours from beginning to the end of the project, which is from the skeleton to the actual flying of the kites.

Family (up to 2 children ages 6 to 9 years old accompanied by an adult)
